about
This is a song about the immigration issue in America written some 8 years ago. Still as current as ever with current Exodus of Central American immigrants banding north to the US Border. In the future will incorporate Spanish via a verse or chorus. Thanks for listening to this work in progress created with a cheap mike in a bare bones sound studio.

Orange Sky by TOMA
When you ask them, what’s her name?
I’m not sure they’ll remember from where she came
But ask a Frenchman, he’s sure to know, he’s got it in his veins
And I’m sure if you look closer, you’ll know who’s to blame
Somewhere a man has nothing to call his own
And he’s looking for something to call his own
And he realizes, he’s only got one life that’s his own
Over the border is a sunrise, all its own
One man says a cliché, “The best things in life are free”
Another man argues, “What’s the price of liberty?”
“Depends who’s asking” says one, living in poverty
Laughs another, “What of the white man’s manifest destiny?”
Somewhere a man has nothing to call his own
And he’s looking for something to call his own
And he realizes, he’s only got one life that’s his own
Over the border is a sunrise, all its own
When you take one man’s freedom for the comfort of another
That ain’t no way to treat a brother
Father, sister, cousin, baby, mother
Watch how the human race treats each other
Somewhere a man has nothing to call his own
And he’s looking for something to call his own
And he realizes, he’s only got one life that’s his own
Over the border is a sunrise, all its own
(Second Draft of song recorded with Brant Huddleston, instrumental)
NOTE: Spanish/ French/English from the eyes of a foreigner looking northward or to the dream of America, Statue of Liberty allusion in first stanza

CUANDO LES PREGUNTAS, ¿CUÁL ES SU NOMBRE?
NO ESTOY SEGURO DE QUE RECUERDEN DE DÓNDE VINO
PERO PREGÚNTELE A UN FRANCÉS, ESTÁ SEGURO DE SABERLO, LO TIENE EN SUS VENAS
Y ESTOY SEGURO DE QUE SI MIRAS MÁS DE CERCA, SABRÁS QUIÉN TIENE LA CULPA
EN ALGÚN LUGAR, UN HOMBRE NO TIENE NADA QUE LLAMAR SUYO
Y ÉL ESTÁ BUSCANDO ALGO PARA LLAMARLO PROPIO
Y SE DA CUENTA, SOLO TIENE UNA VIDA QUE ES LA SUYA
SOBRE LA FRONTERA HAY UN AMANECER, TODO PROPIO
UN HOMBRE DICE UN CLICHÉ: “LAS MEJORES COSAS DE LA VIDA SON GRATIS”
OTRO HOMBRE ARGUMENTA: “¿CUÁL ES EL PRECIO DE LA LIBERTAD?”
“DEPENDE DE QUIÉN PREGUNTE”, DICE UNO, VIVIENDO EN LA POBREZA
SE RÍE OTRO: “¿QUÉ PASA CON EL DESTINO MANIFIESTO DEL HOMBRE BLANCO?”
EN ALGÚN LUGAR, UN HOMBRE NO TIENE NADA QUE LLAMAR SUYO
Y ÉL ESTÁ BUSCANDO ALGO PARA LLAMARLO PROPIO
Y SE DA CUENTA, SOLO TIENE UNA VIDA QUE ES LA SUYA
SOBRE LA FRONTERA HAY UN AMANECER, TODO PROPIO
CUANDO TOMAS LA LIBERTAD DE UN HOMBRE PARA LA COMODIDAD DE OTRO
ESA NO ES FORMA DE TRATAR A UN HERMANO
PADRE, HERMANA, PRIMO, BEBÉ, MADRE
MIRA CÓMO LA RAZA HUMANA SE TRATA EL UNO AL OTRO OR ENTRE SÍ
EN ALGÚN LUGAR, UN HOMBRE NO TIENE NADA QUE LLAMAR SUYO
Y ÉL ESTÁ BUSCANDO ALGO PARA LLAMARLO PROPIO
Y SE DA CUENTA, SOLO TIENE UNA VIDA QUE ES LA SUYA
SOBRE LA FRONTERA HAY UN AMANECER, TODO PROPIO
